PALLIATIVE CARE

Palliative care has become much more accessible and we are delighted to be part of this really important stage in patients' lives. As of 1 January, people who have been prescribed palliative care by a level IV or V hospital medical panel can receive state-funded palliative care in their own home.

Why are we part of this important event? We not thoroughly only look into the problem, informing the public, but we are also one of the three service providers.

If you need help, search for a service provider by location! The following services are currently provided in Latvia:

  • Med4U (in Vidzeme, on the right bank of the Daugava River in Riga and Riga region) in cooperation with the Latvian Samaritans Association, which provides social care and psychosocial rehabilitation;

  • Med4U (on the left bank of the Daugava River in Riga and Riga region) in cooperation with Hospice “Māja”, which provides social care and psychosocial rehabilitation;

  • "Magnum Social & Medical Care", HospissLV Māja.

Palliative care is especially important for patients with oncological diseases, as Professor Gunta Purkalne emphasises in the film "Chemotherapy in Latvia over the time", produced by Med4U in collaboration with the Latvian Association of Oncologists and Chemotherapists. The film captures the changes that have taken place in oncology care and chemotherapy in Latvia since its inception, and the changes in the relationship between doctors and patients.

The film can be viewed at: www.onkomed.lv and on 4 February 2024 at 13.30 on LTV1 channel
